Kevin Durant Signs With Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports, Talks Baptism
Is Jay-Z about to monopolize the sports agency game?
He’s snatching up your favorite athletes left and right, and his newest addition to the Roc Nation Sports roster is three-time NBA All-star Kevin Durant.
Today, the Oklahoma City Thunder forward posted an Instagram photo of himself standing next to Jay-Z and his pastor Carl Lentz of Hillsong Church NYC, after announcing that he inked a deal with Jay and the Roc crew. He also posted another photo of the exact moment Jay was signing the official paperwork with the hashtag “#NEWRULES” and quotes that read:
“Grateful for this opportunity with Roc Nation Sports. It’s go time.”
“He has 90.5 free throw shooting rate, the youngest player in the NBA to join the 50-40-90 club, a giving individual and a legend in the making. What more can I say?”
-Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter
Kevin is now a part of the La Familia.
Forbes reports that this deal is a joint venture with Creative Arts Agency who will handle all the team contract negotiations while Roc Nation Sports will be in charge of Kevin’s off court business, such as endorsement deals, television appearances and so forth.
It’s the Roc in here!
Before he signed his deal, Kevin Durant was recently baptized in a pool of water at the Hillsong Church. This Sunday, he visited the church to talk about his decision to go through with the baptism with Pastor Carl Lentz, as well as why he chose that particular church.
When I came out of the water, I just felt different. Basketball is so important to me and I carry that emotion with me all of the time and before that I would be so mad at the smallest things. My coaches, my teammates, my fans. After that, I was just so positive. Showing God his grace…
He also told the congregation that he always wanting to follow Jesus, and that he immediately clicked with the pastor because of the way he dresses.
Now, that’s something you don’t hear an athlete talking about too often. Kudos!
Should young girls play with dolls that are a reflection of what they look like?
Ludacris’ girlfriend Eudoxie made her way back home to Gabon in Central Africa a couple of days ago, and what should have been her just sharing her acts of charity by giving away toys to the Gabonese kids turned into a criticism of whether or not she should be giving white dolls to African children.
On her Instagram she posted a picture of her Gabonese and American passports, then another with her sister next to a suitcase full of white, blonde dolls helping her pack them up as a charitable donation.
People immediately jumped all up in her comments and even began arguing with each other, with many saying she should have taken black dolls instead to help instill positive images of color for the little girls in Africa. In response, Eudoxie posted:
Anyone trying to tell me what color gifts I should be giving, don’t worry I will give you the chance to do the giving. I’m saving your info and will be contacting you once I get back to receive the black people gifts you will rather I give away in Africa. You will get the chance to show me your giving hearts by sending the gifts to my office in ATL. And make sure all the clothes you wear, the car you drive, the house you live in are BLACK. If you are black everything you wear, drive, drink should be in the color BLACK.
The sad part is, colorism and racism are magnified so much more in America than a lot of other countries, and where Eudoxie is from, she may have never dealt with any of these issues. She more than likely had no idea that a simple photo would draw such a huge response. A few comments were:
I have a beautiful 5 year old daughter and she is struggling with accepting that black girls are just as beautiful as white girls… And I have to keep correcting her.. I have no one to blame but society because this is what society portrays. I love the fact that you are giving back @eudoxiee but in cases like these and in a country like this Race matters and people get upset easily over everything concerning Race so don’t get discourage I know your intentions are pure do your best and God will do the rest.
Wow. As an African raised in London, yep the dolls should defo be black! So many African girls can’t even manage natural hair because it gets relaxed before they even start puberty! But I don’t think endoxie’s actions were intentional more a lack of awareness because she probably doesn’t experience that element of African society nor are enough Africans even aware of the symptoms!
Seriously why do [some people] have to make life so difficult…men don’t treat you bad because you’re [a certain skin tone] they treat you bad because you let them. These dolls are just “barbies” for @eudoxiee little girls and every little girl wants one to play with. They’re fun and imaginative , colour has nothing to do with it. Let kids be kids and take colour of skin out if it … Because it’s the adults that keep this negative tone going! And for the record my daughter has never even mentioned skin colour in her life, thank god for 4 year olds! @eudoxiee keep up the great work!
On the positive side, it was a nice gesture. There aren’t a lot of people that would be thoughtful enough to return to their country baringgifts for the less fortunate.

Jobs a good un … Kanye West has shown he has no self-esteem problems in an interview before the release of Yeezus. Photo: The Image Gate/Getty Images
Kanye West has shown he has no problems with self-esteem in the runup the release of sixth solo album, Yeezus. In an interview with New York Times he said he was the successor to Steve Jobs, asserting: "I think what Kanye West is going to mean is something similar to what Steve Jobs means. I am undoubtedly, you know, Steve of internet, downtown, fashion, culture. Period. By a long jump. I honestly feel that because Steve has passed, you know, it's like when Biggie passed and Jay-Z was allowed to become Jay-Z."
When asked if his instinct had ever led him astray, as when he stormed the stage to interrupt Taylor Swift at the MTV Video awards, West said: "It's only led me to complete awesomeness at all times. It's only led me to awesome truth and awesomeness. Beauty, truth, awesomeness. That's all it is." On the subject of awards, West also hinted at racism within the Grammy organisation, saying: "I'm assuming I have the most Grammys of anyone my age, but I haven't won one against a white person."
He also spoke about the making of Yeezus, saying a lamp designed byLe Corbusier was "my greatest inspiration" after a spell based in France. "I lived in Paris in this loft space and recorded in my living room, and it just had the worst acoustics possible, but also the songs had to be super simple, because if you turned up some complicated sound and a track with too much bass, it's not going to work in that space," he said.
"I would go to museums and just like, the Louvre would have a furniture exhibit, and I visited it like, five times, even privately. And I would go see actual Corbusier homes in real life and just talk about, you know, why did they design it? They did like, the biggest glass panes that had ever been done. Like I say, I'm a minimalist in a rapper's body."

(Tallahassee, FL) -- The sole winner of a $590 million Powerball jackpot is an 84-year-old woman from a Tampa suburb.
Gloria Mackenzie decided not to talk to reporters after she drove to lottery headquarters in Tallahassee to claim her winnings. She took a lump-sum payout of just under $371 million before taxes. Mackenzie picked up her prize with her son, her lawyer, and her financial planner.
A New York woman has filed a lawsuit after contracting herpes at aRihanna concert. Starkeema Greenidge claims she was infected by the virus when she sampled a lipstick offered by one of the singer's sponsors.
Greenidge is seeking unspecified damages for the "mental anguish and emotional distress" caused by Rihanna's signature RiRi Woo lipstick. "This is going to happen over and over again if nothing is done," the 28-year-old waitress entreated the New York Daily News. "I wasn't able to work for two weeks. It cost me a lot of money."
The Harlem resident told Manhattan supreme court that she was herpes- and fancy-free when she arrived at Rihanna's 7 May gig at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. But her life took a terrible turn when she stopped in at the concert's officially endorsed Mac Cosmetics pop-up shop. Brandishing a stick of Rihanna's red Woo lipstick, an employee allegedly applied herpes to Greenidge's lips. "[She] didn't use a fresh or new lipstick tube, but rather one that had been used for other patrons," the lawsuit claimed. The Mac clerk apparently told Greenidge to "press her lips together and spread the lipstick around".
Two days later, Greenidge discovered a cold sore on her lip. A doctor diagnosed the bump as oral herpes. Mac "should have known" they were "exposing patrons to possible spread of disease", her lawyers claim. They have called on Mac to start using disposable lipstick or sanitised swabs at pop-up events such as Rihanna concerts, as well as to improvehygiene training for their clerks. The case is ongoing.
Rihanna's RiRi Woo lipstick, the first in a "multi-collection" deal with Mac, was launched in February. Earlier this month, the singer announced the initial shipment had already sold out. Her first men's perfume, Rogue, will debut in September.
Currently in the middle of a world tour, Rihanna and her lipstick will arrive in the UK on 10 June, playing dates in Cardiff, Manchester, London, Birmingham and Sunderland.
