I have a lot more to say....
Every blue moon or so I'll get a few in-studio calls that question my credibilty as a journalist. Callers like to ask "why" I did a certain story or if a specific story was necessary. I always respond, I don't make the news, just report it and I stand by that. It's my job to work for you, to do you a service, to let you know what's going on in your community, to help in holding your community leaders, and politicians accountable. So here's a quick list on how and why certain stories make it in the news and others don't.
1. The story has to be local...Wouldn't you rather hear about issues in the Lansing School District that Detroit Public Schools or Michigan versus California
2. The story has to be timely...It doesn't make sense for you to hear about a story that's a week old or a month from now (that's why we call it news...smile)
3. The story has to be relevant...How does the story effect you? Will it help you? Why would you, a Power 96.5 listener , care about a particular story.
I get a lot of slack on that number 3.
Why?...Just because Rae and Kisha are having a party and you care about it doesn't mean the rest of Lansing cares about it.
Hope that helps...if it doesn't call me...i'm in the studio...but watch the attitude...
:-)
